As a child I lived with a disease (not diabetes--didn't get my type 1 till I was an adult), and the worse part for me, was that it made you different... in a bad way.
Help spread the word, this disease is cureable...it just takes money. That takes awareness. Even if you can't afford to give money, help spread the word so that those who can give will.
April 15 testingtrying again something new to blog….frustration being in technical discussion with non-technical people. You don’t even speak the same language. If people are speaking the same language, or understand the same language, it makes for very difficult/frustrating discussions… April 11 medical device managemntSo this should have posted yesterday..but due to either technical error or human errror (hmmm-really?) it did not. :-( The first but not last blog from my smart phone I love. Now, with all the progres made in computers and phones..why for the 6K$ it costs for an insulin pump.....the additionl $$$ for CGMS that insurers are so ridiculously fighting...can't I just hook them all up by usb or bluetooth to my computer...and manage them all like the other devices in my life? They are after all,just as important; at least to those of us who are diabetic. It would make the arduous task of management easier for many of us. I realize I am no technical guru...but if $59 phones can do it, I don't understand why my medical equipment can't! December 26 Hospitals and health careMy opinion rant on hospitals and health care:
After 2 hospitalizations this year (this first since I was 8, except for childbearing)--hospitals are SCARY places (I thought so when I was 8 as well--but for much different reasons). The amount of non-caring, less than competent staff; unfortunately outweigh the good. I have talked to people who have been in the same hospital, and in other hosptials..some are better than others;but on a whole--the hospital systemis broken--and it is NOT just due to the uninsured...that is a bunch of blather that is part of the distractionary shell game of insurance companies and large corporate hospital systems.
How people who do not have family members there every minute of every day survive and get well, is amazing. I am fortuante enough to have a very caring family, who fought tooth and nail at times to be able to be with me....and the good nurses were greatful they were there to do things that didn'tr eally require them (good aides are scarce as well) and let themknow whennit was really urgent that they coem NOW; the less than good and truly terrible ones don't want family around to see what does (and doessn't) happen as it should.
More amazing is that the hospitals, doctors, nurses, and all the other support staff know it, and all claim nothing can be done about it. The beuracracy puts most companies to shame...and it is NOT about patient care---it is about the bottom line (profit)---and the staff by and large are not sharing in that bottom line savings, but suffering for it.
Insurers know too, but insurance companies are a rant of an entirely different nature---but as far as hospitals go--the insurance companies are only interested in who gives the biggest discounts so their bottom line is protected. And as long as the lawsuits don't outwiegh their discounts--no problem as far as they are concerned.
The worst off are patients who don't get proper care, next are the good doctors, nurses and other staff ---and yes there are some very very very good ones--and they unfortunately get tarnished due to the overwhelming numbers of the totally less than stellar and outright scary ones. They pay as big of a price as the patients---because they care and they can't take care of everyone---they have to be satisfied with taking care of who they are assigned to for a shift.
The people screaming about the health care system being broken because people are uninsured are missing the bigger point---what good is it to have insurance, if there are not competent institutions and people to care for you???
